RC ADVENTURES - Project: "SPiNTiRE" - Weathering & Patina - BASE COAT & SALT CHiPPiNG - 2WD Truck ─ RCSparks Studio

This is my first time attempting a painting technique referred to as "Salt Chipping", but first I need to lay down a few layers of Primer, and "Rust" - (This is only after I sand, wash & dry of course!) Today I am painting my CA10 2WD Truck RC model made by King Kong RC.

Some people may know I am a fan of the video game "Mud Runner", by "Spintires", on my XBox One X. This game allows you to simulate being a Lumber Trucker, making your way through the back woods and through the swamps in a capable, but slow-going Military-style work truck. I have done a lot of RC builds on YouTube, but never a 2WD 1/12th scale Trail Truck.

Now - do I have the magic to make it go from a smooth white sheet of plastic parts - and turn it into a believable, patina, forest beauty? We will see. Nothing to be afraid of, I have done my research.. and I'm ready to give it my first go. How hard can it be?

My goal in layering so many paints is that I will be able to give some depth to the body. Most artists use airbrushing for work such as this, but I wanted to try my hand at spray-bombing. The Rustoleum primer paint had no adverse reaction to the Tamiya brand paint. No cracking, or peeling. I tested it first, off camera.

I must thank our viewing audience for commenting in our last video about the "planning stages" of the paint job. Without their comments, I would never have found out about "Salt Chipping".. where an artist uses salt to add Rust-like effects, and pits in the paint. I do my best to demonstrate it in this film, and found it to be very easy and effective!

Next, I will be using hand brushes and paints to add more detail to the chassis rails, axles, diff housing, and of course.. I have to build the back bed/box - and detail all of the accessories! So much to go still.. but the reward, already has been very worth it.

I hope you have been enjoying the build series so far :)

"Asia Tees", (an online RC distributor), suggested I had a look at this kit. This is a the scale replica of the American International KR-11 heavy duty tractor from the 1940s. I am so excited for this build, becuase its completely unique and a new challenge for me!

"Background:

The 1:1 CA10 was originally based on the American International KR-11 which was supplied in great numbers to the Soviet Union during WOII. It is a scale replica of the KR-11 and subsequent versions that were designed based on the original KR-11. They were used as tractor trucks and used in construction in the 1940s. It has close resemblance of the Dodge WWII Powerwagon. The subsequent CA10 was primarily a military truck and they were also produced into various civilian variants, including ambulance buses, fuel trucks , water tankers , dump trucks, lift trucks, construction vehicles, and fire trucks."
