One of the most honoured artists in Grammy history â€" with 18 awards in total with a career spanning over 70 years. To put this in perspective for some of the younger viewers she was ranked number 1 in Rolling Stones list of the 100 Greatest Singers. She was the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was also awarded an honorary degree from Harvard, and a doctorate from Yale, Brown, Berklee and the University of Detroit. She didn't even have to go to these schools, they awarded her on how she changed the industry. Of course her personal life was filled with plenty of ups and downs.
She was a mother at the age of 12 and a mother of two by the age of 16. She had two failed marriage and both her parents passed away in sorrowing circumstances. Aretha passed on in the same city where she started her career, Detroit surrounded by friends and family. The world is still in mourning with many of the biggest names in music sharing their deep love and R.E.S.P.E.C.T. For the Queen of Soul.
