For YEARS viewers have asked me to put a thumb on to the excavator - and for the life of me, I did not want to pull out the hydraulic block, buy another one, try to get another ram.. and blah blah blah. It would be way too much hassle and money. These machines are NOT cheap! BUT - there is an alternative that cost me next to NOTHING to make. I just needed a few extra pieces of scrap metal, a drill, cutting disk, a few screws.. and wham! A MECHANICAL Thumb. The one thing that really was important was the angle of the thumb, for the RIPPER I am using - was the adjustment plate for the grapple. It needs to be adjustable, so I can pick up objects of different size. In this video I go from idea, creation, to final product. This is version 1.. and Im sure I will upgrade it over time.. but I know the grabber will be a lot of fun for anyone who uses this machine.
I hope this helps anyone who is wondering an inexpensive solution.. to an expensive problem!
